Mike's Note: Just near marble Arch of course. New hotel in an older building. Part of Pride of Britain Hotels. Contemporary edge. We stayed just after it opened in late 2009 and it was fabulous.

Firmdale Hotels, London

Firmdale Hotels' owners, Tim and Kit Kemp believe that "hotels should be living things, not stuffy institutions". Kit Kemp has designed all of the interiors in a fresh contemporary English style. Her mixture of colour and texture, modern and antique together with an impressive art collection, has combined to create a unique look and style.

Mike's Note: We have stayed in almost all of these at one time or another. No 16 Kensington, The Soho (guess where), Charlotte Street just West of Tottenham Court Road, Haymarket, to name most of them. All superbly designed and run. They just opened in New York. Can't wait to try.

What the Press say

"Hailed as one of the top beauty spots in Britain, the Lake District is at its prettiest in spring. The meadows are dotted with newborn lambs and the daffodils are in full shout adding gashes of yellow across the fertile green backdrop. It's a prime spot for some good old fashioned fresh air for lovers of the great outdoors...Perched high on a hill overlooking Windermere - the largest lake in England - Linthwaite is a refurbished Edwardian country house set in 14 acres of landscaped gardens...the hotel is a haven of tranquility and owner Mike Bevans likes to describe it as unstuffy. He is quite right...When we were not sitting by the crackling fires on cosy sofas, we were taking tea on the terrace, looking open-mouthed at the majestic views over the lake..." Daily Express, 18th May 2002.

What our Guests say

"Having wanted to visit Linthwaite for several years, we've finally made it up here. If we had known how utterly beautiful and tranquil it was, we would have come sooner. This place is exquisite and immaculate - and the views are a treat for the soul. The gardens are magical, and the food!! Wow, never eaten such delicious treats! However, for us the thing that sets Linthwaite apart is the warm-hearted service we received from the staff. My partner and I travel a lot, for business as well as pleasure, and rarely have we encountered such a pleasing and delightful place." ET, Middleton, June 2010
