Guest comments - Are we one of the Best Hotels in the Lake District?
Our aim is to be the best hotel in the Lake District, or even the best hotel in the UK! On departure we leave a feedback form for comments in every room to see how we are living up to that aim - here are some of the recent comments:
"We had an amazing stay! I've never been somewhere and said that I would definatley come back - but I would always come back here. The Loft Suite is fantastic - couldn't ask for more. The staff have been absolutley fantastic - really friendly and attentive. We came here for our wedding anniversary - all I can say is thank you so much for such a wonderful time - we've enjoyed every minute! We just wish we didn't have to leave."
JE, York, June 2010
"Wonderful room - stylish, comfortable with great bathroom. It is also great to have rooms where dogs are welcome. The service generally in the hotel is perfectly pitched - helpful, efficient and friendly whilst not being intrusive. The gardens are sublime. An inspired mixture of formal and natural. I can only imagine you have an army of workers to create and maintain your fourteen acres."
LH, London, June 2010
"A relaxed yet professional service. Very attentive staff but in a subtle manner. The room was beautifully decorated and the bathroom facilities really something else. Dinner was first class and again, the staff increased the enjoyment with their service, attention and knowledge. To top all of this however, was the view that awaited us in our room - it would be hard to believe there is better out there..!!!"
MB, Cheltenham, June 2010
"There is little to nothing which I could suggest to help you improve on what we consider perfection. You have an immediate advantage of a beautiful property in wonderful gardens and with magnificent views. The food is lovely (please pass compliments to the chef and other kitchen staff) but what is the icing on the cake is the staff, who are consistantly polite, helpful but most of all HAPPY!!"
TB, Clitheroe, June 2010
"A splendid enjoyable stay. Great welcome by reception staff and the dining room staff are incredible - especially looking after our family inc. young children. Talking of staff - the gardener does an incredible job - the ground are a picture. Food excellent, room 34 superb!"
BF, Lancashire, June 2010
"Having wanted to visit Linthwaite for several years, we've finally made it up here. If we had known how utterly beautiful and tranquil it was, we would have come sooner. This place is excuisite and immaculate - and the views are a treatfor the soul. The gardens are magical, and the food!! Wow, never eaten such delicious treats! However, for us the thing that sets Linthwaite apart is the warm-hearted service we recieved from the staff. My partner and I travel a lot, for business as well as pleasure, and rarely have we encountered such a pleasing and delightful place."
ET, Middleton, June 2010
"The first thing that impressed us was the standard of the room. The furnishings were excellent, indeed one of the nicest hotel rooms we have every experienced in the UK (and we have stayed in quite a few!) The friendliness ans standards of service displayed by the hotel staff are exemplary - every request is dealt with promptly and efficiently (perhaps you should run training courses for other hotels' staff - showing how it should be done!) Finally the gardens - they are an absolute picture this time of year - congratulations to your gardener."
CA, Oxon, May 2010
"The most romantic setting of any hotel I have ever been to."
"CD, Wimbledon, May 2010
"Wow!! Thus is just truly amazing, had a fantastic few days here. The staff are so kind and helpful in every way. The rooms are perfect, the food excellent. I will be back, many thanks, I feel totally relaxed."
JF, Barnsley, May 2010
"Hotel is a very good example of what a Lakeland Country House Hotel should be, welcoming atmosphere and staff, excellent dining and superb outlook of attractive gardens to distant fells."
RF, Wetherby, May 2010
“We have had a wonderful stay – thank you very much indeed. This was our first stay at Linthwaite having stayed at other ‘boutique’ hotels in the Lakes. It is definitely up there with the best we have stayed in and the food was sublime! The staff were fabulous as well!”
CS, Leeds, May 2010
“Everything it’s cracked up to be. Aspect, food; staff delightful, very well appointed!”
DP, Wakefield, May 2010
"We had a truly most enjoyable stay. Your hotel has two outstanding qualities which set it clearly above others we have stayed in. Friendly helpful and knowledgeable staff who really make guests feel welcome. Excellent food in both quality and presentation in the restaurant.”
DR, Cheltenham, May 2010
"First of all, the hotel is in wondrous settings. The room we stayed in is lovely, beautifully formatted and very clean. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, and the food has been fantastic. Despite only staying for one night, our time here has been thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable; we'd have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to anybody."
AR, Bilston, April 2010
“We would especially like to express our appreciation to Colin, the wonderful plumber who kindly retrieved my diamond ear stud that got drained away in the bath tub. Within an hour of informing about the loss, I got my stud back! Absolutely amazing!! We’ll definitely be back!”
CT, Indonesia, April 2010
“We have enjoyed our stay at Linthwaite House immensely. The hotel with it’s surroundings is a joy. For we town dwellers the view over the lake and mountains has been overwhelming.”

ES, West Midlands, March 2010
“I most liked the ambiance, superb food, very good service from all staff, and having a good chat with you! I liked the way the staff greeted me, the way a new bottle of water appeared in my room when I had finished the former one, and the Annabel Williams photographs in the restaurant.”
SR, Sedbergh, March 2010
“Loved how immaculate yet comfortable the hotel feels!”
JD, Bristol, March 2010
“The hotel is excellent and the restaurant is fantastic. Room 4 is the best room we have been in and has superb views.”

“Food exquisite – work of art and dedication – surely you have the best chef(s) in the world – really first class. Staff – extremely friendly and helpful – lovely group of young men and ladies. You have obviously chosen your staff with care. Hotel – relaxed, warm, comfortable atmosphere,”
MR, Kirkcudbrightshire, March 2010
“This has been the best hotel I have ever stayed in, and having been a Travel Coordinator I have stayed in many hotels. Your excellent customer service, the cosy intimate surroundings and the food ‘well’ what can I say. Hand on heart everything has been truly wonderful and I can’t think of anywhere I would rather have spent my 60th Birthday. Well done, and many thanks.”
MG, Cheshire, Feb 2010
“I always compare the Linthwaite to going to a massive football game – worried that it may not reach the heights that I’ve previously experienced! However, the Linthwaite – unlike a lot of football games I’ve been to – never disappoints. I know it’s hard but I hope you can continue the standards that you’ve set.”
GH, Ormskirk, Feb 2010
“To sum up Linthwaite House Hotel, it is the calibre and class of Samling/Sharrow Bay without the pomp and stuffiness.”
DF, Tyne and Wear, Feb 2010
“It’s almost like being a house guest in a private house!”
JS, Yorkshire, Feb 2010
“There is a warm and relaxing atmosphere with an extremely efficient service. Your ‘unstuffy’ approach is prefect for making a visit to such a tranquil setting, and we cannot praise your staff enough.”
VP, Somerset, Feb 2010
“Our visit to Linthwaite has been very enjoyable; we have felt very welcome and cosseted by all the staff. The atmosphere is very relaxing, warm and cosy. The food is the best we have experienced in all the various places we have stayed over the years. The quality of furnishings, bedding, china etc is excellent and much appreciated – you can’t beat the best! The hotel is spotlessly clean with plenty of hot water for long relaxing baths. Thank you for a wonderful break.”
EE, Southport, Feb 10
“We would certainly recommend this place to our friends with total confidence. Many thanks for a fabulous stay – we feel totally spoilt and well rested.”
MR, Berkshire, Feb 10
“Most liked: Even though very professional and attentive, the service was friendly and relaxing. It feels ‘like home’ from the moment you walk in.
Food: Sweet potato and thyme soup, and wild mushroom risotto were historic! All food generally excellent.
Décor: Both public and room areas were tastefully decorated.
Least Liked: Wish we were staying longer!”
RT, Bolton, January 10.
“A wonderful, ‘unstuffy’, luxury stay – days really do become months! Great staff, great food, wonderful location (seen in the snow!) – totally relaxed, two jigsaws in two days – we will be wearing anoraks next!”
JK, Heywood, Jan 2010
"Your hotel is a breath of fresh air!
Good, attentive, polite, efficient service.
Clean, comfortable and luxurious rooms.
A warm welcome and a lovely ‘real fire’!
Beautifully prepared and scrumptious food.
A location to die for, we will be back again soon!"
KW, Cheshire, Dec 09
"Thank you for your excellent offers which allowed my wife and I to afford our visit. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay, albeit a brief one. I commend all of your staff on their attention to detail as these many small points add up to make a significant impact on us both."
AH, Cumbria, Dec 09
"An absolutely excellent stay made magical by the snow. In a location that was already beautiful, it transformed the grounds and views into something sensational. The inherent warmth of the staff (and the hotel) were lovely to return to after a day in the cold. There is no doubt that the ambiance of this hotel is exceptional; a combination of diligent, warm and friendly service, excellent food, warm fires and cosy lounges. Staff commitment was epitomised by the efforts made early each day to keep the drive both open and safe."
RD, Dec 09, Buckinghamshire
“The reason we keep coming back (despite the weather) is the very high level of friendly service, combined with the total lack of pomposity, and of course the ability to relax in cosy comfort. The food is pretty damn fine too!”
DG, Liverpool, Oct 09.
“Warm, relaxed and welcoming – Like favourite slippers!”
MB, Staffordshire, Oct 09.
“This is our third visit and the fact that we return again and again speaks for itself. The venue/gardens/rooms/staff and food are ‘outstanding’. Long may it continue. Thank you so much.”
RH, Northumberland, Oct 09
“Most liked: the personal attention and welcome back note from Sarah! The informality of the staff and the whole experience is like being wrapped up in a warm blanket... we never want to go home!”
GP, London, Oct 09.
“Just the right level of service/attention to detail and luxury. We HATE stuffy, pretentious places, but do like a touch of class.
We’ve had a really relaxing stay.” MM, West Midlands, Sept 09
"I have no idea how you manage to provide such a high level of service without stuffiness, but you do! We felt as if we were in a private house hosted by people who wanted to take care of our every need without intrusion. The restaurant staff were outstanding…the desk staff were incredibly helpful as well." - TH, California, June 09
"Having stayed in many hotels all over the world i.e The Berkley, Kensington, London, The Grand in Bournemouth and Brighton, and many 5 star hotels worldwide; having eaten in many famous restaurants owned by celebrity chefs i.e. Petrus, Boxwood, The Ivy, Langhams – we found your hotel and food to be on a par if not better: the service was second to none." - AC, Chelmsford, June 09

"Thank you so much for making our holiday in the Lake District such a wonderful and relaxing one! From the moment we arrived until our final day we have felt pampered and looked after in luxurious surroundings. There were so many lovely little touches that I thought I would make a list of everything we loved: The weather reports each morning, The stylish décor of our room – love all the cushions and head board drapery, The enormous bed, The Molton Brown bath products, The delicious breakfast – especially the French toast and the smoothies!, The fabulous evening meals. My stomach has finally expanded to accommodate all the courses each night! The serene conservatory, The yummy afternoon tea – especially the little yoghurty thing and the chocolate brownie, The stunning view of the lake, The beautiful grounds – especially the tarn, Enjoying pre-dinner drinks and canapés on the terrace, After dinner tea/coffee and petit fours, The wonderful, friendly, super-hardworking and lovely staff, The chance to enjoy relaxing, pampering treatments in our room, The bed turning down/cleaning service. I could go on, and I’m sure I’ve left something off but I’m running out of space. Thank you so, so much it was awesome!" - AA, June 09
