A popular walk from Linthwaite Country House Hotel

Near to Linthwaite: East to the Mason's Arms - well you do need to ensure you can get refreshments on a walk. It's about six miles across some relatively unused paths. You will need the O.S. map but it's not too hilly as we're already a few hundred feet above sea level to start with. (N.B. The Mason's has the largest choice of beers of any inn according to the Guinness Book of Records. So you may want a cab back!)

West: Walk down to the ferry and cross Windermere, proceed to Hawkshead via the Sawreys (Near and Far), include perhaps 'Hilltop' - home of Beatrix Potter. Two pubs: Tower Bank Arms is the best at Near Sawrey.

North: Walk along Heathwaite Lane via Post Knott for views, perhaps on to Orrest Head and back via Windermere and Bowness. Many pubs and cabs available here!

South: Many paths available off the Crook Road, and like the Eastern route, not many people about.

With the car and then walk: there are literally thousands of walks to do - please ask us for recommendations.
