Do you take dogs?

Dogs are welcome in our hotel grounds and we have a kennel where they can stay free of charge (please bring your own bedding). Dogs however are not allowed in the hotel building or in the bedrooms.

Do you take children?

We welcome children to stay. Extra beds are available for a few rooms for children up to 12 years. £25 per night to include breakfast. Children requiring cots £17.50 per night to include breakfast. Children occupying a room of their own; up to 50% off, subject to availability and demand. We offer a children's menu from 6 to 7 pm in the restaurant, but regret that children under 7 years of age are not allowed in the restaurant at dinner (7 pm.)

What are your booking conditions?

All reservations must be confirmed in writing or by credit card with a deposit equivalent to first nights stay. (Except Christmas and New Year where the value of the full stay may be requested in advance). Deposits will be refunded if we re-let the room or if 14 days' notice of cancellation is received by fax or by writing. We advise guests to take out insurance against cancellations. A reservation is a contract in law and you may be liable for the cost of the total stay. Cheques will only be taken by prior arrangement or up to the value of an accompanying Bank Cheque Card. No Company cheques, and no accounts can be sent to a company unless a purchase order is supplied in advance of stay. We welcome cash, travellers' cheques, Maestro, Access/Mastercard and Visa. We reserve the right to alter the rates quoted without prior notification.

Do you serve evening meals?

Four course Table d'hôte including canapés, coffee and petit fours £48.00 per person Dinner is available from 7.00pm with last orders at 9.00pm. There isn't a strict dress code, but smart casual is preferred. Reservations are advisable. We have a score of 4 in the Good Food Guide.

Do you serve Sunday Lunch?

Traditional Three course Table d'hôte Sunday Lunch is served 12.00-1.30 pm, prices are as follows: 2 course lunch Monday to Saturday £14.95, 3 course lunch Monday to Saturday £17.95 and 3 course Sunday lunch £18.95.

Do you serve afternoon tea?

Available every day, served all afternoon. Enjoy tea, scones, jam and cream and sandwiches in the conservatory or on the terrace, overlooking Lake Windermere.

Do you serve food all day?

Throughout the day Linthwaite serves a selection of freshly made sandwiches, light snacks and beverages.

Do you serve lunch?

Simply Lunch: Served every day Monday to Saturday, 12.30 - 2.00 pm can be served on our terrace (weather permitting) in our lounge, conservatory or bar. We offer a range of choices from soup and sandwiches to a three course meal.

Are you a boutique hotel?

Do you know - we are not sure... If the question is are you a small, well designed, individually run hotel then the answer is a resounding yes! Boutique hotels in the Lake District are few and far between, chintz can be the order of the day: we have banned chintz in favour of Ralph Lauren meets Raffles style decor. All our rooms are individually designed - please see our other pages to get a feel for the interior of the hotel.

What facilities do you have/offer at the hotel or nearby?

  • On-site: fly-fishing (catch and release) in our trout-filled tarn and permits for the area's best fishing, golf practice hole, croquet and putting green (seasonal). Body & Sole Therapy will also come to the hotel and offer in room treatments such as massage (Indian Head massage, aromatherapy, Swedish massage, reflexology and sports massage), facials, manicures and pedicures.
  • Off-site: Guests have complimentary use of nearby leisure spa. The club incorporates swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and jet showers. It also has a well equipped gymnasium. Other facilities include (please note these are chargeable) badminton and squash. Windermere Golf Club is located 1 mile away and tee off times can be arranged A certificate of handicap is required. Mountain bikes can be hired locally.

What is there to see and do in the local area?

There is a wide choice of things to see and do in the area including: Steamboat trips on Lake Windermere, Wordsworth's Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount, Beatrix Potter's Hill Top and the Beatrix Potter Experience, Levens Hall Topiary Gardens, Holker Hall and many other historic houses and gardens.

What time is check in/out?

Check in is from 2 pm. If you are arriving earlier than this, then please advise us in advance and we will do our utmost to ensure the room is ready for your arrival, although we cannot guarantee it. We kindly request that guests check out by 11 am on the day of departure.

Do you have rooms accessible by wheelchairs?

We have seven rooms on the ground floor. Following the recent assessment under the English Tourism Council (ETC) National Accessible Standard, Linthwaite has been awarded Level 1 Mobility. However due to our ongoing extension work the ramp to our disabled access room is now temporarily steeper than usual.Our managers are on hand to help with access and things should be back to normal in June 2008.

What is the closest railway station?

Windermere Railway station is located about 2 miles from Linthwaite and is a short taxi drive away. The nearest mainline station is Oxenholme - The Lake District, which has regular connections to London Euston, Manchester Airport and Edinburgh and Glasgow. Travelling time from Oxenholme to London Euston is just over 3 hours.

What facilities do the rooms have?

All twenty-seven bedrooms have private bath and shower, waffle bathrobes, 12 channel satellite TV, Wi-Fi, direct dial telephone, trouser press or iron and ironing board, tea and coffee making tray, hairdryer and CD radio hi-fi (CD library in reception). Some rooms now have DVD players.

Do all the rooms have lake views?

Not all the rooms have lake views; some have lovely views out onto the landscaped gardens or onto the couryard which has a gazebo and pond.

What are the differences between the room types i.e standard, superior and Preferred?

Standard Doubles - have normal sized double beds and look onto the courtyard. Superior Doubles - have king sized double beds. One is on the ground floor and looks onto the lake; one is our disabled accessible room with a garden view; the others are on the first floor and look onto the courtyard. Preferred Doubles - these are the largest rooms that we have - have king sized double beds, and views of either the lake or the gardens.

How close is Manchester airport?

Manchester international airport is located approximately 90 miles away and it takes about an hour and a half to get to the hotel by road. There is a train station located in Manchester airport and there are direct connections from there to Windermere station, 2 miles from the hotel.

How far away is the nearest motorway?

The M6 is the nearest motorway and Linthwaite is located 20 minutes (14 miles) off junction 36 of the M6.

Where is the Lake District?

The Lake District is in Northern England just south of the Scottish/English border and on the West coast of England. It is approximately 1 hour north of Manchester and Liverpool (both main cities with airports). The Lake District is in the county of Cumbria, and is a National Park with beautiful lakes and mountains, castles, gardens and towns. Please see our Lake District page for more details.

Are you a non-smoking hotel?

Yes, since January 2006 we have become a completely non-smoking hotel after listening to many suggestions from our guests.
