Keith Floyd’s Cookery Theatre at Linthwaite House

Legendary chef Keith Floyd, doyen of English cookery writers and one of the most colourful presenters on TV, will be presenting his own unique brand of cookery theatre at Linthwaite House Hotel, overlooking Lake Windermere in the Lake District.

Keith Floyd has published over 27 books in his career, (including three in the last year – Floyd's China; Keith Floyd's Thai Food and A Splash and a Dash just out) and he has presented 19 TV series which were phenomenally successful (and still being televised throughout 40 countries world wide). Last year Keith performed in his sell out one man show (which we witnessed) where he told us about his very colourful life in a very colourful way. He is planning another tour next year. He is also about to open his Floyd’s Thai Restaurant in Phuket.

When Keith Floyd came to Kendal in his one man show, he stayed at Linthwaite and was so knocked out by the Lake District that he suggested to us that a Cookery Theatre would give him the opportunity to be in the Lakes more often!

He will be demonstrating varieties of his culinary world; including French Provincial Cooking; Fish and Shellfish (the first Floyd TV programmes were on Fish); Back to British; and Mediterranean Cooking. You will have a chance to rub shoulders and exchange culinary thoughts with the great man himself. You will be able to taste his food as he cooks and interact with Floyd – something you couldn’t do with TV! (You may even have a chance to find out how good that glass of wine was he always seemed to have in his hand.) Please note this is not a cookery school!

Keith has recently produced a VideoCast for Cumbria Tourism in which he explains how to create a dish called 'Cumbria on a Plate'

Keith Floyd’s Cookery Theatre details

On the evening of your arrival, enjoy a drink with Floyd, followed by Linthwaite’s own Chef’s 4 course dinner. (There will be a Captain’s table for anyone on their own, or if you simply want to be eating with others.) The following morning after a hearty Cumbrian breakfast, Keith’s Cookery Theatre will start around 10 a.m. and finish at 4 p.m. in the afternoon. Lunch is included, and of course much of that will be trying what’s been cooked (you’ll also be able to taste throughout the demonstration.) In the evening enjoy another Linthwaite dinner, and then the following morning depart refreshed and more knowledgeable!

It’s interesting to note that many of Linthwaite’s young brigade of Chefs were heavily influenced and inspired to become chefs by Floyd’s TV series when they were small boys watching on Mum and Dad’s knees, and they are all very excited at the prospect of being able to work with Keith.

Included in the complete two-night break price is dinner room and breakfast on two nights, Floyd’s Cookery Theatre, coffee, lunch and tea on Theatre day, service and vat. You will also receive a bag Floyd’s Theatre goodies to take home with you, including the recipe cards relevant to what you have seen. Parts of the break may also be purchased seperately.

As already mentioned there are only two shows per week; limited places only, so book now to avoid disappointment.

Please note, as the majority of rooms at Linthwaite are doubles or twins, it is more expensive to book a single room.

You are very welcome to bring a non participating partner who can attend everything except the Cookery Theatre.

Update on Floyd So Far…

The Cookery Theatres held so far in March, April, May and June have been a resounding success prompting us to release new dates in November and December. We had a fair amount of national interest in the story – here’s what the press had to say about the Cookery Theatres:

“Like the old pro that he is, he knows exactly how to entertain, flambéing a pan of liver with generous amounts of brandy in a flurry of showmanship, while a seemingly unconscious stream of words flows forth.” The Scotsman April 07

“What has been on offer today has been a mix of Floyd the man and Floyd the phenomenon and we agree it’s worth coming to the Lake District for.” Metro, 10th April 07

“The emphasis is placed firmly on having fun!” Yours mag, April 07

“Keith Floyd makes cooking fun. He shows you how it’s possible to produce some quite stunning stuff, without being a slave to your stove… or your dinner guests….Keith Floyd is the one and only”- The Westmorland Gazette March 07

And, more importantly, here’s what our guests had to say:

“Delightful! When can I come again?” Mrs G, April 07
“Even better than expected” Mrs H, April 07
“I’m a huge fan of Floyd – to be able to sample his cooking and watch him in action was something I never thought I would ever do – he is a legend”. Mrs D, June 07
"The hotel is fabulous, and we both so enjoyed floyd's irreverant, non-pc, flamboyant style. I have made some of the things he suggested over the day and they have been really successful. Best of all, we got to chill out in a way we seldom do in England; both of us have very pressured working lives (I brought my husband along; he was reluctant, but actually had a fabulous time, and is really pleased and grateful! a bonus) and so to find a haven like the Linthwaite is tremendous. I have recommended the hotel to all of my friends, and we will certainly come back to stay. Please thank your staff for being so helpful, courteous and kind, and hello to Tyrone. What a man! Thanks again, it was lovely." Mrs J, June 07
