Environment awards for Linthwaite

An important issue for hoteliers is how to protect the beautiful environment that we live and work in, and 2007 has seen many adjustments in the green credentials of Linthwaite. We now recycle bottles, paper and cardboard (no more bonfires!) and plans are underway for a new composting shed. Food miles are also on the agenda with chef sourcing more and more local produce with plans under way for a 50 mile radius menu – watch this space. In recognition of this we have been awarded a CBN Bronze Environmental award and the Cumbria Biodiversity Award 2007.

Update on the Floyd Cookery Theatres

The Cookery Theatres held so far in March, April, May and June have been a resounding success prompting us to release new dates in November and December. We had a fair amount of national interest in the story – here’s what the press had to say about the Cookery Theatres:

“Like the old pro that he is, he knows exactly how to entertain, flambéing a pan of liver with generous amounts of brandy in a flurry of showmanship, while a seemingly unconscious stream of words flows forth.” The Scotsman April 07

“What has been on offer today has been a mix of Floyd the man and Floyd the phenomenon and we agree it’s worth coming to the Lake District for.” Metro, 10th April 07

“The emphasis is placed firmly on having fun!” Yours mag, April 07

“Keith Floyd makes cooking fun. He shows you how it’s possible to produce some quite stunning stuff, without being a slave to your stove… or your dinner guests….Keith Floyd is the one and only”- The Westmorland Gazette March 07

And, more importantly, here’s what our guests had to say:

“Delightful! When can I come again?” Mrs G, April 07
“Even better than expected” Mrs H, April 07
“I’m a huge fan of Floyd – to be able to sample his cooking and watch him in action was something I never thought I would ever do – he is a legend”. Mrs D, June 07

3 AA Rosettes achieved January 2007

It's been a great start to 2007 with the news that Simon Bolsover, headchef at Linthwaite, has been awarded 3 Rosettes by the AA. This prestigious award places Linthwaite's restaurant on a par with the likes of Gordon Ramsay's at Claridges, Angela Harnett at The Connaught, The Savoy Grill and Nobu to name drop just a few! Obviously we're all incredibly pleased and feel that Simon has now received recognition of the amazing food he is creating using the best local and seasonal produce. Simon said: "We're extremely proud to be recognised for our fine dining and consistently great service. Our menu has evolved to include a number of signature dishes that reflect the wealth of ingredients on offer in the Lakes, and this has been crucial in us securing our third rosette." Is there life after the World Cup?

As some of you may have heard we created a “World Cup Free Zone” at Linthwaite over the last month and were offering complimentary glasses of champagne if a member of staff even mentioned the “f-word” fottball that is! – We were completely amazed when the world’s press picked up on the story and Linthwaite went global! Mike appeared on TV in France, Russia, Brazil, Japan and on Sky News, BBC Northwest tonight and ITV Granada and national news as well as being interviewed on over 25 international radio stations from Croatia to Australia also including here at home BBC Radio 5 Live, Talksport, BBC Scotland and many regional radio stations too. Members of staff were interviewed live on German national radio, New Zealand radio (5 am for poor Mary!), and Irish radio to name a few, and articles about Linthwaite were published in newspapers all over the world from Australia, India, Japan across to Canada and the United States including the New York Times. We’ve never known anything like it!
